Welcome to LOST IN WORDS SHORT FICTION COMPETITION
Predictable plots and formulaic writing abound in a world that is more interested in making money than telling interesting and original tales. We believe that the world is being robbed of great stories which is why Undo Redo Entertainment is proud to inaugurate the Lost In Words Short Fiction Competition 2022. We’re working hard to discover original works and ideas that have been lost in the cacophony of corporate banality. So, we’re calling on all writers of short fiction to submit your entries.

We are excited to announce our winners for the inaugural Lost In Words short fiction competition. Click the button below to see the winning and commended writers. The top-rated stories will also be available on the website for a limited time.

- 1st Prize – $500 AUD
- Honourable Mention will be awarded to entrants whose work demonstrates particular promise
- The winner and some works receiving Honourable Mention will be published on our competition website and may be offered the opportunity of receiving an ongoing residual income.

What to submit: Stories must be original fiction, in English, typed and double-spaced, and may not be less than 1,000 words or exceed 4,000 words in length. There are no theme or genre restrictions. Copyright remains the property of the author.
Who may submit: The competition is open to all Australian and international writers. Your story must not have appeared in any publication with a circulation of 5,000 or more. Your story must not have been published by an online magazine or have been self-published as part of a larger work.

Submission requirements:
- Must be submitted online in PDF format only via our Submission Form (button below).
- Writers may submit a maximum of 2 entries.
- Writers must notify us if their story is accepted for publication or wins an award, places, or receives an Honourable Mention in another competition prior to announcement of our Winners (12 August 2022).
- The author’s name should not appear on their story as entries will be judged anonymously.
- Must be works of fiction.
- Must be submitted prior to the deadline on 8th July 2022, 11:59pm AEST (Sydney, Australia) (extended from 24th June).

Our judge
Lost In Words Short Fiction Competition is being judged by author, editor, playwright and literary manager, Pete Malicki.
Malicki has a long and deep history in the world of writers. He began as a fiction author, writing five full-length novels before migrating his efforts to theatre. His plays have been produced over 1,150 times in 20+ countries and he is known internationally as a monologue specialist and founder of global event World Monologue Games. In more recent years, he has moved towards writing and directing film content. His collective works have won over 30 major awards in nationwide and international events.
Outside of his own creative endeavours, Malicki has worked as a freelance editor including with New Holland Publishers. He was also the Literary Manager of Short+Sweet International for 9 years, responsible for over 25,000 assessments of short plays.
Malicki says, "I'm very pleased to be judging Lost In Words and I look forward to reading some excellent submissions from around the world."
