I am a playwright, singer-songwriter, guitarist and amateur actor and I love writing, music, singing and performing. I have been writing for over three decades, which has included full length plays, short plays, monologues, poetry, 70 topical/satirical songs and comedy sketches and over 30 contemporary/folk songs. I have been writing more substantial pieces (longer than sketches) since 2016. I really enjoy formulating a gag and writing humour into my plays.
My ultimate aim is to entertain with my writing and to see my plays staged professionally and by amateurs. I write for enjoyment — not due to ego or to try to make a living from it, but if 'anything happens' professionally, then that will be a bonus. I also enjoy illustrating/drawing and photography.
I recently self published my first book of plays, Stuff Happens! and Other Plays — a book of 6 humorous short plays and monologues, with all proceeds going to Healing Little Hearts, a charity who carry out free life-saving heart surgery on babies and children in the poorest parts of the world.
I enjoyed formatting, proofreading and designing the cover and am marketing the book to friends, family and specific Facebook groups. It was very satisfying to be able to put my writing to good use and to get it out there at the same time.
My nine-minute comedy monologue When I Grow Up? was selected to compete in the Global Finals of the World Monologue Games, with another nine-minute monologue My Home Is My Castle also competing in the UK Regional Finals — both in 2023. I also had a one-minute monologue Celestial Body competing in the UK Regional Finals in 2021.
Marc's career highlight
I thankfully have quite a few planned projects lined up. I have very recently finished writing a full length drama/comedy set on a coach which I have high hopes for, where most of the actors are doubling and changing character on stage, which I'm now sending to producers/theatres. I also wish to direct this next year at the local drama group I belong to.
I am shortly aiming to adapt a John Buchan novel into a play, which will be very exciting, plus I am starting to develop ideas for a full-length drama/comedy play with a fantasy element which has an Ealing comedy feel to it. I also have several more short plays and monologues in mind.
All this will keep me busy over the coming years!
