I am a professional actor in theatre, film and television. I have loved acting ever since I can remember, participating in my first ever play festival when I was only 8 years old and winning The Adjudicator's Award for my performance.
When I am not on the stage or screen, I am a Primary School Teacher and a certified Clown Doctor at the Queensland Children's Hospital and Sunshine Coast University Hospital (in conjunction with Wish List). I have been teaching for over 17 years, winning a state award as part of the National Excellence in Teaching Awards in only my fourth year of teaching. I have been a Clown Doctor for the past 5 years, working for non-for-profit organization The Humour Foundation. I work alongside some of Queensland’s finest paediatric medical staff in assisting with distraction therapy for many sick children and their families.
I would be best known for three key roles in my life: enthusiastic and passionate Primary School Teacher MISS MAC, professional Queensland Clown Doctor DR STINKY, and rising Brisbane-based artist ANNA MCMAHON starring in Bin Day, The Finish Line, Seven Times and La Boite’s mainstage production of Tiddas.
It's tricky to pick just one! I have been so very fortunate to be involved in a number of golden projects these last few years.
However, one of the most fulfilling projects would be working alongside director Ashlee Jensen, and executive producers Monica Sanguigno and Daniel James in short film Seven Times. This hard-hitting drama, inspired by true events, covers powerful content directly related to domestic violence.
It was an honor to be a leading part of a story so special that raised much needed awareness for a very worthy cause. This film is dedicated to all the women, men and children who have lost their lives to domestic violence, and the survivors.
Anna's career highlight
I began my journey with the wonderful World Monologue Games in 2021, where I was a selected finalist with monologue Still Waiting written by gorgeous playwright Alexandra Collier. This award-winning comedic performance earned me a perfect score from the judges, sending me straight to the Regional Finals that year.
I also took part in World Monologue Film Festival in 2021, where I was a selected Finalist for my short film Jess Keep Swimming. I participated again in 2022, taking out Best Performer and Most Innovative Film for my entry Projections, and was a selected Finalist in 2023 for my short film Impulse.
Also at World Monologue Film Festival, I co-directed Finalists For Dust You Are (2023), Losing Elizabeth (2022), It's Not In The Stars (2021) and Semi Finalist Walkies (2022) alongside dynamite all-female-lead production company MacBopf & Webcke.
I am very excited to announce I will be, once again, playing the role of Veronica in the return season of La Boite's professional mainstage production Tiddas. This Matilda Award Nominee for Best Ensemble will be hitting Sydney in January as part of Belvoir St and Sydney Festival's opening program for 2024. This is one not to be missed!
